Last year, the 2016 Buick Envision earned a 5-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and was named a 2016 Top Safety Pick Plus by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Now, the 2017 lists for these accolades have recently been announced, and the new Envision has once again earned the highest possible ratings from these prestigious organizations.
To determine Buick Envision safety scores, the NHTSA performs crash tests in four potential accident scenarios, including frontal crash, side barrier, side poll, and rollover. The tests use crash test dummies to determine the severity of injuries to different body parts as well as testing the vehicle’s stability and resistance to rolling over. It also includes a range of recommended safety technologies.
The IIHS does crashworthiness testing in five areas, including small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints. In order to be named a Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn a “good” rating in all categories. Top Safety Pick+ vehicles also must earn a score of “advanced” or “superior” in front crash prevention if necessary equipment is present.
The NHTSA has given every Buick vehicle for the last two years a total 5 stars, and many of Buick’s vehicles have been recognized by the IIHS. For some of the safest cars and SUVs on the road, Buick is the brand to shop.
