When it comes to cleaning your car, some choose to put their sponges to work while others would rather enter the car wash. For those who prefer getting their hands dirty (or clean, depending on how you look at it), there are a few things you should know. We here at Simi Valley Buick GMC have some car washing tips to help protect your paint while getting your vehicle squeaky clean!
Generally, you should wash your car as soon as it gets dirty. While that may be possible in a perfect world, it obviously isn’t in reality. If left for too long, dead bugs and chemicals can leave acids that will tear through wax and your car’s paintjob. Washing your car once per week will do the trick.
When washing your car, be sure to use a dedicated car-wash fluid. Using household soaps and detergents that aren’t formulated for car paint will only eat away at the wax. Be sure to use a soft, natural sponge or lambs-wool mitt to protect your paint!
As for when you should wash your car, the answer’s rather short. Don’t try to wash your car in the heat or immediately after you’ve driven it. Heat tends to speed up the drying process, leaving behind soap and water marks. Instead, wash when the car is cold and the weather’s cool for the best result.
